Why HypnoBirthing® ?

I first became interested in HypnoBirthing® in 1999, after watching an episode of Dateline, featuring two couples learning hypnosis for birthing. One women had experienced an extremely traumatic first birth. The program explained the principles of hypnosis with birthing, and culminated with each couple experiencing beautiful, calm births.

This was a revelation to me. Until then I had always considered birth as the most painful and frightening ordeal that any woman could encounter, and one which I ultimately would have to endure. But I was not the only one with misguided perceptions, of how wonderful birthing can and should be.

One of the women’s mother accused the doctor of drugging her daughter, because she was so calm, she looked as if she was sleeping just moments before the baby was born. It was at that point I realized that HypnoBirthing® was the method I would use when I gave birth.

It was six years later when I became pregnant. There was never any doubt in my mind of what I would do, I found a teacher in the area who came to our house and taught my husband and I HypnoBirthing®. He had no idea what HypnoBirthing® was, but he was willing to give it a try. My husband has since become one of HypnoBirthing®’s biggest advocates.

I loved my birth experience and felt I could have done it all over again moments after my babies birth. My daughter was post-sterior for my entire labor, and at times it was intense, but it was an intensity that makes hours seem like minutes. I felt as though I was deeply relaxed, in control, and embracing each surge knowing that with each surge my baby was moving closer to being in my loving arms.

Only a few days after I gave birth I knew I wanted to become a HypnoBirthing® practitioner. I want to be able to help other women achieve their goal for a calm, peaceful, loving birth. One they will look back upon with wonderful, empowering memories.
